Seven Springs Sightseeing Guide

Rhodes is unique in the climate it has throughout the summer but the amount of lush greenery, lakes and streams it seems to have.  One of the biggest draws on the island is the location of the Seven Springs, right next to the village of Kolymbia.

Bathed in greenery and lush forest Seven Springs is a virtual oasis in the heat of the summer.  Local wildlife and flora are here in abundance and the shade of the trees and greenery makes for a wonderful day out.

The Seven Springs are actually fed by natural spring water which comes from the volcanic rock below, the water seeps out of the springs all the time and so much of it comes out that its been channelled into a small lake which now supply's the village of Kolymbia with fresh water.  The Italians when they occupied Rhodes created a dam which holds the water until its need in the village below.

You can get down to the lake by following a narrow tunnel about 180m until your reach the cooling waters of the lake.

Seven Springs - General Information

Again in this area you will see wild Peacocks and ducks which thrive of the small streams and the near lake, the flora in this part of the island is also amazing with some very large and strange vegetation growing.

Around the area of Seven Springs you will happen on some wonderful walking trails and this area is very popular with ramblers and hikers visiting the island.  Two of the main walking options are following the dark tunnel down about 180 metres to the lake or follow the road that lies above the actual tunnel which again will bring you down to the lake.

If you need a bit to eat there is also a great little family Taverna in the area which allows you to get fed and watered and continue on your way.  Most people bring picnics though as this area is wonderfully quiet and a great place to take the family on a day out.  Definitely something different from just sitting on the beach all day.
