Kalathos Holiday Guide

Kalathos BayYou will find the small holiday resort of Kalathos on the east side of Rhodes and near the resort of Lindos.  Kalathos is a small village which sits in the bay of Kalathos and is a great example of a traditional Greek village hardly touches by mass tourism.

Choose to holiday in Kalathos if your looking for peace and quiet and to share your holiday with other like minded people.  Due to the size of the village its good for couples, older families or older groups of travellers.

The actual village is set into the hillside and the beach of Kalathos is about a 15 minute stroll, the resort is not recommended for people with walking difficulties unless you want to get a local taxi on a daily basis to the shingle beaches.

Below you will find a guide for Kalathos with some pictures and videos from like minded visitors to the village.

Kalathos Daytime

If your visiting Kalathos then the first place you will be looking to go is the main beach of the village, most of the beach is quiet and untouched with little facilities so make sure you take a cool box with plenty of drinks and snacks in plus towels to lie out on.  Some of the beach is served by a beach bar and you can hire sunbeds and umbrellas at a cost of around 8 euros.

The village itself has a few cafes like MoVida cafe bar just across from the Atrium hotel and a handful of gift shops and small mini markets.  There is a selection of card and coin phones for you to phone back home and a post box to send back any postcards, although you will normally get home before they arrive at their destination.

This resort is in the perfect location for exploring the island, its many sights and sounds including the Acropolis of Lindos, the medieval town of Rhodes and even taking some boat trips, one of the most popular boat trips being to the small island of Symi.

Its usually best to hire a car if your visiting this part of the island so you can go out and explore at your leisure, of course though you can use the local bus service which is very reliable and most fares don’t come to more than a few euros return.

Kalathos Nightlife

There aren’t so many large bars or clubs in Kalathos, but most people don’t visit the resort because of this.  What most people are looking for is traditional small cafes and bars which are in abundance in the village, the prices here reflect the fact the locals drink here and you can sit and enjoy a local beer or two for around the same price as the UK.

If your looking for some traditional Greek restaurants, again the village has these in spades and the food in every restaurant is perfect, the service is fast and polite and the food is very cheap with prices ranging about 12 to 15 euros for a starter, drink and main.

A firm favourite for many tourists visiting Kalathos has to be
Konstantin Taverna which is just up from the beach. Surrounded by lush green grass you can opt to sit inside or sit out on the grass an enjoy a lovely meal with top quality service.

If you do try the traditional Greek Taverna's then go for local dishes like Lamb Kleftiko, Mousakka or the Stifado, all home cooked from recipes handed down over generations it will make you return to the island over and over again just to enjoy the food.

A highly recommended restaurants to try in Kalathos have to be the Olive Grove Taverna which sits just up from the beach.  We also would recommend trying out Taverna Nikolas and Taverna Ostria for some excellent Greek cuisine.

If you do want a bit more nightlife then you can venture into the town of Lindos which has a few more bars and clubs or even further afield is the party resort of Faliraki.  Lindos is most's peoples first choice as the journey is short via taxi.
