Pefkos Daytime
The first place most people want to head is the beach of Pefkos and
there are a few ways to the beach depending on where you are staying. As you enter
Pefkos from the main highway you will come down into the main centre of the resort
and there are two roads leading down. The left road as you look over the resort
leads to the central beach and the road to the right leads down to the main beach
of Pefkos. Both roads lead to the same stretch of beach but the central road has
more to see along the way down.
The beach of Pefkos is a lovely golden sand and shelves gently into the crystal clear waters, there are a few pebbly and rocky areas so be careful when entering the sea. We didn’t find any sea urchins on the rocks but take care as the rocks can be slippy. There are sunbeds available on the beach and cost around 8 euro for 2 sunbeds and an umbrella which is fixed in place.
There are a few places to eat and get refreshments near the beach with some supermarkets
around 20 or 30 meters from the central beach. There is Flyers cafe and restaurant
serving the main beach, Lees cafe and restaurant serving the central beach and Philosophia
restaurant serves further down the central beach which has the view on the picture
above.
If you want to go bargain hunting then Pefkos has a limited number of small
souvenir shops, mainly with hand crafted and woven goods including small ceramics,
honey, olive oil produce including soaps and cooking oils. If your looking for more
out of your souvenir shopping then you have to pay a visit to Lindos, with its exquisite
ceramic shops selling all manner of goods. Look out for coloured plates with pictures
of a deer which is the symbol of Rhodes island.
If your looking for a good English breakfast then we would recommend Fuse bar on the central beach road, Kelari pool bar which is just a few meters down from Fuse bar and Caprice bar. There are of course many other small cafes serving up a breakfast but these are the few we preferred and do come with English style bacon and sausage.
For nice pool bars to visit during the day try Kelari pool bar with free entrance or if your on the outskirts of Pefkos try Anixis Pool bar which has stunning views over the resort.
One thing you must do when your in Pefkos is the Glass Bottom boat ride, its 18 euros per person for a 2 hour boat ride which comes with 2 free drinks and you get to explore the coastline including Lindos and the bay where they filmed the Guns of Navarone with Anthony Quinn, Gregory Peck and David Niven. The captain of this boat ride is funny and entertaining and the ride back is hilarious as he speeds back to port.
If your just looking to hire a boat, partake in some watersports or go fishing in Pefkos then you can hire a boat by the hour with prices very reasonable and you can get information on the main beach of Pefkos.
Where to eat in Pefkos
After a long day relaxing on the beach you will be pleased to know that Pefkos is well catered for when it comes to traditional Greek restaurants. The food here is a mix of traditional Greek dishes and continental dishes like meats, pastas and pizza. We always aim to eat Greek when visiting a resort so have listed some of the best restaurants for traditional Greek food first.
The number one place to visit in Pefkos in our opinion has to be Anixis Taverna which is up a hill to the far left of the resort if your standing at the centre of Pefkos. The service, welcome and food here is top quality and the prices are very reasonable which the star dish being the Lamb Kleftiko and Mixed Souflaki. Next we have Enigma restaurant right at the central part of Pefkos which is a little more expensive but the food here is top quality and you get some lovely views over the resort. The Enigma restaurant has a very picturesque waterfall feature which serves as a great background for your holiday photos.
Dama Dama restaurant has been voted number one restaurant a few years in a row and is situated on the central beach road, with only 20 or so tables you have to be there early to get a seat straight away or you can wait for 15 minutes if you arrive later. The food here is wonderful and the Stifado is not be missed.
If your towards the far right of Pefkos you have Two Brothers restaurant which is
a firm favourite among locals and tourists alike and the food and service here is
top quality. If your looking for mainly British food then try Caprice bar or Fuse
bar for British meals.
Pefkos bars and nightlife
If your looking for some great entertainment and want to get away from your hotel
for the night then head out in Pefkos and you will find quite a few cocktails bars.
If you start in the centre of Pefkos first try out Palm Cocktail bar which does
some amazing cocktails at reasonable prices and has some great music playing and
Free wi-
If you are staying towards the right of Pefkos as you come into the resort then you have the Wild West bar down the main beach road, Caprice bar which is just along from the taxi rank. Further down you will find Zig Zag bar, Med bar and one of the largest bars in Pefkos is Eclipse bar which has two bars and the drink prices are reasonable with comfy chairs overlooking pools and palm trees. Near to that is Pefkos by night which has a host of variety acts and DJs.
If your on the other side of Pefkos then a must see is Peacock bar which sits just along the road from Enigma restaurant and is run by Lesley and her family and is one of our favourite bars in Pefkos. They have a few different happy hours and the cocktails here are amazing. There is a roof garden and courtyard area an the music here is varied. Just up from here is the Rock Garden and Angel bar.
The music is normally turned off in Pefkos around 12 or 1am each night but the bars
will stay open as long as there are still people there to serve and some stay open
to the early hours of the morning.
