Kolymbia or Kolimbia in Rhodes is a spectacular place, with
rolling mountains meeting gorgeous sandy beaches its the favourite destination in
Rhodes for many people. With some stunning 5 star hotels on this part of the island
as well as small self catering villas and apartments the village is very welcoming
and maintains a very traditional appeal to many.Kolymbia Daytime
Most of the time people head straight for the palm tree lined beaches
of Kolymbia and the watersports available. You can relax all day here and catch
a tan or go snorkelling and fishing around the rocky outcrops. The beach stretches
for what seems like miles and you are never too crowded or overwhelmed by other like
minded tourists.
Many parts of the beach are private for hotel use, but chances are you will be staying
in one of the lovely hotels that nestle on the beach. Each hotel has been specifically
built to blend in with the surroundings and you are literally spoilt for choice when
it comes to picking your desired hotel for your holiday.
You can hire or rent sunbeds
and umbrellas on a daily basis If they aren’t included within your hotel stay and
there are a few beach bars dishing up some great snacks and cooling drinks.
If lazing
on the beach is not your thing, you can explore the area which is perfect for people
looking to do a little more on their holiday, with mountain biking, walking and hiking
very popular in this area.
There are a handful of shops and places to eat during the day but the best shopping
can be found in the town of Rhodes, the capital of the island.
You can also hire a
private boat and venture out into the bay here or even go on one of the many organised
boat trips which take you around the island or to the small island of Symi. You
can also get boat trips to Marmaris in Turkey on a daily basis from Rhodes town,
this is always popular as you get to browse the Turkish markets and come back with
some terrific bargains.
Kolymbia Nightlife
The hotels around the village provide most of the nightly entertainment
with professional animation shows and live Greek music. If you want to get out and
venture away from your hotel you will find small welcoming Taverna's serving up freshly
caught fish and local Greek cuisine. One of the highest recommended restaurant is
Elena restaurant in the heart of Kolymbia. The prices are relatively inexpensive
and you can get a meal from around 15 euros per head.
There are no clubs in the village
so anyone looking for a bit more nightlife would have to hire a taxi and venture
into the islands clubbing capital which is Faliraki. Most people however seem content
with enjoying the entertainment laid on by the many hotels in the area.
