Kalithea Holiday Guide
Kalithea is an amazing small resort that has some features
not seen in any other resort through Greece. Once home to some amazing baths built
by the Italians which have now fallen into disrepair over the past 50 years but are
now undergoing renovation by the local populace. The village itself has some lovely
little beaches, secluded coves and stunning scenery and people return to this area
of Rhodes year after year.
Kalithea is very popular with the locals and always busy
on a Sunday, but there is enough room for everyone and its the perfect getaway break
for couples and families. The backdrop to this village is cooling pine forests and
orange groves and the village sits perched on the small sandy coves and beaches of
the area.
Below you will find a little more information on the resort of Kalithea
including pictures and a video of Kalithea.
Kalithea Daytime
The reason many people visit the resort of Kalithea is the small
coves with sandy outcrops, there are many of these around the area and each has its
own small Taverna which rents out the sunbeds and provides great meals during the
day and long into the night. As mentioned before this area is very popular with
the locals and this is the reason. You know you are getting good food when the locals
of Rhodes eat here as well. The prices are cheap and the drinks ice cold and our
recommendation is to try a few of the cocktails on offer in the evening.
If your looking
for watersports there is a variety of different activities you can try from pedaloes
to jet skis, all available at a small fee.
You can also go scuba diving in this area
with specialist diving school Potapanie or Rhodes diving school, you start of on
Kalithea beach and explore the surrounding areas. You will see shoals of local fish
species as well as octopus and if your very lucky a school of dolphins sometimes
comes close in, although is very rare.
The village of Kalithea itself has a few souvenir
shops and supermarkets for you to browse, but the bulk of most peoples shopping is
done in Rhodes Town which is just a stones throw away from this picturesque resort.
If
you want to go out and explore there are local buses which connect you to the main
routes to and from Rhodes Town or your best bet is to hire a car before you arrive.
Kalithea Nightlife
There are a few Tavernas dotted around the village all serving
up some excellent traditional Greek dishes including Stifado, Kleftiko and Souflaki
as well as freshly caught fish dishes. Try the meze for a combination of foods and
a great taste of Greek culture.
If you want something different for your nightlife
then Rhodes Town sits only 7km away and has some excellent small clubs and bars,
try the bars at the port for a romantic setting with excellent cocktails on offer.
Kalithea
is not known for its nightlife, more for its relaxed way of life so choose this resort
if your looking to get away from it all and relax on an amazing beach holiday.
